Selecting USA TODAY Wines

It is hard to sort through the 1000's of wine options and find a good one. Now it's easy – we do the work for you.  Wines are sourced from around the world, ranging from small local vineyards to premier brands. Our experts taste the contenders, and select the top wines to go on to the final round.  Then EVERY wine is voted on by panels of USA TODAY readers for final approval.

 We start with 200 wines to find you 6.

How the selection process works:

1. Vineyards

We work with vineyards from all over the world to find those that offer the most incredible red and white wines. The most common types of wines the USA TODAY sources are those such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Merlot as well as some of the lesser known, up and coming varietals such as Malbec, Semillon, Viognier etc.

2. Wine Experts

My Wines Direct experts taste hundreds of wines submitted or found in travels. Different regions are known for certain styles and each vineyard has specialties, so we work with many to bring you a great sampling and mix of styles and regions. Winners are certified on a basis of taste, value and consumer expectations. Only successful candidates become eligible for tasting by the USA TODAY tasting panels.

3. USA TODAY Tasting Panels

USA TODAY readers are invited to attend blind tastings across the nation. Wines are sampled in flights and given a "yes" or "no" vote. Only runaway winners approved by the Tasting Panel move on to become Wine Club selections.
